UNESCO-Aschberg Bursaries for Artists Programme 2013
 
In partnership with UNESCO-Aschberg Bursaries for Artists Programme, Changdong Art Studio of the National Museum of Contemporary Art, S-Korea is offering three international bursaries for visual artists.

Origin of candidates: All regions of the world (except for the Republic of Korea)

Age: 25 to 35 years old

Host and Partner institution:
The UNESCO-Aschberg Bursaries for Artists promotes the mobility of young artists in order to enrich their personal perspectives, to develop their creative project, enabling them to engage in a cultural diversity dialogue.
National Art Studio, Changdong, established in 2002, is run by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Republic of Korea. National Art Studio, Changdong is designed to enhance the diversity and quality of creative artistic exchange by providing a network for the close relationship between overseas and domestic artists and various art-related professionals. National Art Studio, Changdong located in the northern part of Seoul offers 9 individual studio spaces and an open-air work area. The institution provides professional support for artists through exhibitions, associated cultural exchanges and public related programs, which address the relationship between contemporary art practices and current practical debates.
 
Working and living conditions: Workshops, exhibition opportunities and public discussions, cultural excursions are offered. Live/work studios with a bed, sharing bath and kitchen, DSL Internet access service are provided.
 
Nature of bursary:
  • UNESCO-Aschberg provides and manages the travel arrangements, a round-trip airfare at best rates in economy class.
  • National Art Studio, Changdong provides a studio combined with accommodation; a total amount of 3,000,000 KRW (approx. 2,000 euro) for the three-month period; opportunities to show artworks at gallery of National Art Studio, Changdong. (National Art Studio, Changdong also works together with the laureates for the visa application process. Yet, the laureates need to cover the visa application fees.)
  • Laureates are responsible for their own meals and must provide his/her health insurance.
  • Laureate commits to write a Report on their experience at Changdong and send it to UNESCO-Aschberg
  • We do not accept artists who wants to use us as a base for travel and research in other countries.  We are looking for someone who commits to being here in Institution for the FULL period of  3 months(12weeks)
 
Dates of residency:
1st term : 17 Jan ~ 12 Apr, 2013(3months)
2nd term : 15 Apr ~ 9 Jul, 2013(3months)
3rd term :  11 Jul ~ 4 Oct, 2013(3months)
 
Eligibility: Professional artists in the visual arts and new media arts must be between 25 and 35 years old with relevant study or training and an experience of artistic work for at least three years. Proficiency in English is required.
 
How to apply: Send an application form with required documents (please see below) to National Art Studio, Changdong of the National Museum of Contemporary Art (S-Korea) by post.

2. A copy of passport
3. A brief artist‘s statement
4. A pre-project report including anticipated outcome during the residency.
5. CV or résumé listing your most important exhibitions, performances, publications, awards and education
6. Portfolio must be submitted in the form of digital images, preferably in CD or DVD containing a description of work. Up to 10 still images in “jpg” or “ppt” format.
For video and/or new media artists: Please submit a DVD of up to 3 individual clips that are no longer than 5 minutes each; and create a menu on the DVD that lists the clips.
※ A list of the images submitted (or CD/video script) with title, date of work, medium and size. If necessary, a brief (2~3 sentences) description of work can be included.
 
Application Procedure: Applicants' works are reviewed by a panel of experts, distinguished curators compromised of boards of the National Museum of Contemporary Art, S-Korea.
